Description

The Jetty Boil-off Gas Recovery Project was glamorously inaugurated in a huge tent in the middle of the Qatar desert.

It is a $1bn environmental development implemented to put an end to flaring from the six liquefied natural gas (LNG) berths at Ras Laffan Port.
His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the State of Qatar, officially inaugurated the Jetty Boil-Off Gas Recovery (JBOG) Project with a multimedia 3D animation show.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, senior government officials, and senior executives from Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas, RasGas and project shareholders.

Within a matter of weeks and under extreme security restrictions, an opening celebration for the gas recycling plant had to be implemented under the banner of environmental protection.

On April 28, 2015, Qatar celebrated the inauguration of the $1 billion Jetty Boil-Off Gas Recovery (JBOG) Project at Ras Laffan Industrial City, marking a major milestone in environmental sustainability. The event was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, along with other dignitaries from Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas, and RasGas.

The inauguration ceremony featured speeches highlighting the project's significance in reducing gas flaring by 90% at Ras Laffan’s six LNG loading berths. Officials emphasized that the recovered gas—amounting to 29 billion standard cubic feet annually—would be reused as fuel or converted into LNG, saving the equivalent of 1.6 million tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. This aligns with Qatar's National Vision 2030 for sustainable development.

The event also celebrated the project's construction achievements, which involved up to 3,500 workers at its peak and achieved an exemplary safety record of 22.6 million man-hours without a Lost Time Incident. A film showcasing the project's journey was premiered during the ceremony, underscoring its innovative design and technological advancements.

The JBOG project inauguration was not only a celebration of environmental progress but also a testament to Qatar's leadership in the global LNG industry and its commitment to balancing industrial growth with ecological preservation.
